Local NC Breast Cancer Foundation Hosts Annual Event

September 19, 2015 was the 7th annual Piggin’ Out for Pink fundraiser. If you are not familiar with Focused On a Cure, we are a 501 (c) (3) foundation. Focused On a Cure is 7 years old & we have been able to give $200,000.00 in the past 6 years! Piggin’ Out for Pink is our largest fundraiser  we do all year. Each year it seems to only get better & better!

For 3 years now The City Club http://(https://www.facebook.com/cityclubatgibsonmill?fref=ts has been our venue of choice. Such a beautiful location, Watty & Angela have been very gracious and supportive.

If you have never attended Piggin’ Out for Pink, it really is a fun night! Besides the silent auction, balloon pop, great food & the awesome band, the incredibly talented artist Jared Emerson returned to paint a beautiful portrait “The Lion & The Lamb”. It was amazing to watch the City Club turn into a sea of pink in honor of breast cancer survivors! A special thanks to our very own Sherry Carawan, who has a real flare for decorating.

Such a great night to socialize with friends and sponsors. Each year we rely on the amazing sponsors every year to make Piggin’ Out for Pink a huge success. There is no way that we could ever raise the funds we have over the past 7 years without our incredible sponsors. Take a look at this years sponsors. Thank you for being so generous! Hawk Transportation & Denmar Public Warehouse was this years presenting sponsor.

The silent auction is always fun! The balloon pop is pretty exciting! We have a table full of prizes for anyone that purchases a balloon. At a certain time during the event everyone pops their balloons. Inside the balloon is a number. Once you have your number, you claim your prize!

The evening is dedicated to honoring our new Focused On a Cure http://(https://www.facebook.com/focusedonacure?fref=ts) survivors. Each year we hear their stories and photograph these incredibly strong amazing ladies. We have even had a few men in the exhibit! Each year on the night of Piggin’ Out for Pink we unveil this year’s survivor metals & add them to our existing exhibit. We now have 96 portraits in our exhibit. We debuted our very emotional 2015 FOC documentary. Thank you to Jennings Burchfield from Unlocked videography for donating your wonderful talents!

This year we had a wall display to honor our 7 heroes that have passed away.

Thank you to PB&J for your generosity! All the appetizers were donated by the amazing Amanda Hood!

The BBQ dinner was prepared by the incredible Noel Belk of Pop’s Backyard BBQ! If you loved the food, he can be found on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/Pops-Backyard-BBQ-499305560217494/timeline/ The man can cook!

Our 2015 survivors are incredibly strong ladies. We are so blessed to have them tell their stories. Each story makes a difference! Someone is inspired and given hope as they read the story of their cancer journey.

Absolutely one of the biggest blessings of the evening was when Jared Emerson https://www.facebook.com/The-Jared-Collection-103036456453486/timeline/ painted his incredible painting “The Lion & The Lamb”! Jared is an internationally known artist who paints to Christian music with his hands in just minutes. It’s hard to explain, you just have to see him work in person. Jared paints for many non-profits & fundraisers. Later in the evening we hosted a live auction to auction off the beautiful painting. The proceeds went to Focused On a Cure.

There was an unexpected surprise that really caught me off guard! My friends on the Focused On a Cure board decided to honor me with the legacy award! I know!!! Many know I do not really like to put the attention on me, but there I was. I was very touched .

I think this may have been Kathy Waters idea & Miranda may have had something to do with it too!

My great friend Ginger Moore, who runs Splashpaw Foundation https://www.facebook.com/TheSplashpawFoundation had some nice words to say about how I like to help with her foundation. Animals definitely need our help, & we all know I am an animal lover! Jenifer Glover came to represent my church. https://www.facebook.com/RockNKUMC?fref=ts  I always try to help my church in any way I can. Judy Simms from The Humane Society of Concord & Greater Cabarrus County shared how we photograph the fur babies at the shelter to help find them forever loving homes. https://www.facebook.com/Humane-Society-of-Concord-Greater-Cabarrus-County-102333889806243/timeline/  Lastly, my sweet friend Renda Welch praised me for all the work that I do with Focused On a Cure. https://www.facebook.com/focusedonacure I cannot even begin to tell you how much this lady has done for Focused On a Cure herself. So many will give me thanks for all I do but I NEVER ever do it alone. There are always people right beside me helping me along the way. Kasey Waters sang a beautiful song about leaving a legacy! Well done ladies! Thank You so much!
